History

  • Sangkum Reastre Niyum Era: Cultural affairs were managed under the Provincial Department of National Education of Kampong Thom.
  • Khmer Republic Era: Cultural affairs were managed under the Provincial Department of National Education of Kampong Thom.
  • People’s Republic of Kampuchea Era (1979 – 1984): The department was re-established and named the ‘Provincial Propaganda Department of Kampong Thom’.
    • 1979: The department was led by Comrade Ho Saran, followed by Comrade Chheng Phon, and then Comrade Un Noeng as the Director of the Provincial Propaganda Department. The office was located in a flat building opposite the current Provincial Department of Culture and Fine Arts.
    • 1980 – 1984: The department moved to a new location at the Permanent Exhibition and Museum Hall (the current department building) in Village 1, Ti Ruom Khaet District, Kampong Thom Province. It was renamed the ‘Provincial Department of Propaganda, Culture, and Information’ and was led by Comrade Nguon Chheng Ang and Comrade Nhep Phan as its directors.
  • State of Cambodia Era (1984 – 1992): The department remained at the same location and kept the same name.
    • 1984 – 1989: It was led by the female Comrade Kao Chheng Hour and subsequently by Comrade Mum Soth as its director.
    • 1989 – 1992: It was led by Comrade Um Sok as its director.
  • Second Kingdom of Cambodia Era (1993 – Present): The department is located along National Road 6, Village 1, Kampong Thom Commune, Steung Saen Municipality, Kampong Thom Province. It was renamed the ‘Provincial Department of Culture and Fine Arts’.
    • 1993 – 2004: Led by Um Sok as the department director.
    • 2005: Led by Mao Sovandy as the acting department director.
    • 2006 – 2008: Led by Chhun Chuohut as the department director.
    • 2008 – 2018: Led by Chhang Kang as the department director.
    • 2018 – Present: Led by Hin Sophorn as the department director.
